Ecovillage Design Education Course Content Overview

Findhorn EDE – The 5 week Journey

The course will take you on a journey through Gaia Education’s 4 Pillars of Sustainability - Social, Ecological, Economic and Worldview. These pillars provide a comprehensive overview of leading edge thinking in the promoting of regenerative sustainable futures.

We begin the course with elements of Social and Worldview dimensions along with an emphasis on Design approaches and whole system thinking in the first week.

Design Studio work weaves throughout the course, as does inspiration and exercises from Joanna Macy’s The Work the Reconnects.

The Design Studio time is an action learning experience.

With fellow participants, the team is working to apply the strategies, tools and models you’re learning in the course to existing projects in our ecovillage.

Learning how to work and collaborate effectively in this mini-community can be adapted to work with any group.

The main focus of the second week is Ecological design; the third week Economic issues are explored, with practical local solutions highlighted. The fourth week returns to the meta- Worldview dimension and offers ample time to complete the design projects.
Transition Training is integral to the course.

In the final week, EDE Findhorn offers a unique experience where you will be able to practice and hone your Participatory Facilitation skills. These approaches will be useful for engaging your local community in regenerative projects. Participatory Facilitation skills training provides coaching and insights into how to empower others, through drawing out and pooling wisdom from the group/ collective.
